Words on Photographs

More Words

The SEQUENCES were shot toward the end of the '70s and resulted in 5 large assemblages composed of from nine to 15 or 16 individual prints. These were distributed in the mid-'80s and are no longer accessible, but I have included very rough record photos that indicate the arrangement. These are of very poor quality and were so distressed that I did not bother to clean them up for the digital presentation. A few prints from each sequence were included as 6x9s in the 1980 exhibit and they are included here.

In each of the sequences a dressed figure rolls over and loses her clothes in the movement. At their best, the images are very hot, or were very hot by 1970's standards.

MARYJO (late1970s to early 1980s) worked with me off and on for 5 years, starting when she was nineteen. She was a theater major and took our work together very seriously, which I appreciated.

But ultimately, the best pieces are simply photographs of Mary Jo. THE ATLANTA SESSION group was the last session before her pregnancy, and are classic in the best sense.

VIRGINIA (late 1970s to early 1980s) came to work on PHANTASTIC PORTRAITS and we become friends for several years. It was not difficult to be around someone of exceptional physical beauty, but it was different. One needs to be frequently reminded that it’s an attribute; a part, not a whole. At the same time, she aspired to be a beautiful person, so it was tempting to over value the head start.
